Markers of Ovarian Reserve

Can we predict the time to menopause in women? The answer is yes. Today we are analyzing the scientific paper  Anti-Mullerian Hormone as a Predictor of Time to Menopause in Late Reproductive Age Wome n 1 . This article talks about the Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) as a possible measure of reproductive aging.  The oocyte formation and maturation depend on the endocrine system. There are hormones responsible of the different steps of folliculogenesis. But what is folliculogenesis? Folliculogenesis is the formation and maturation of the ovarian follicle, where an inmature oocyte is present.  AMH seems to inhibite recruitment of primordial follicles and decrease the sensitivity of small antral follicles to FSH (Follicule-stimulating hormone), processes necessary for the ovulation.  It is present in all the procedure and  remains highly expressed in cumulus cells of mature follicles.  We can conclude that concentration must be lower at older ages. The levels...

Advanced Maternal Age (AMA)

How old is too old?  Today we are analazying the scientific paper  The impact of advanced maternal age on pregnancy outcome 1 .   This article talks about the relatioship between advanced maternal age and the increased risk of potential adverse pregnancy outcomes. The advanced maternal age is affected by sociologic, ethnic, and cultural considerations. However, from a scientific point of view, fertility gradually declines, but it is from the age of 35 when we see the greatest decrease in oocyte quality and quantity. AMA is related to spontaneous abortions, trisomy diseases, non-chromosomal congenital malformations and birth defects. There is even a greater risk of complications for the mother, not only for the baby, especially hypertension-related conditions and gestational diabetes. Despite this, recent studies claim that there is an independent relation between intrapartum cesarean section and AMA. Well at least not all news are bad...  This is wh...
